Sophie Whelan is an Australian-based, 18-year-old female who has been dancing since she was 3, and singing and acting since she was 10. Sophie attended Stella Maris College, Manly, and trained in RAD, Cecchetti ballet, contemporary, lyrical, jazz and musical theatre. She studied the acting methods of Le Coq and Boal and was vocally trained by Natasha Cupitt. Her most recent role was Miss Wormwood in Matilda and was also a choreographer in the production. Her other roles include Lucy in the Play Basset, Sylvie in the film Ruby Moon and Alice in Ben Tomas I Love You. She is the first vocalist to be nominated for an encore at Stella Maris and has competed and placed in many singing and dancing eisteddfods over the years. She loves nothing but performing, as the arts are everything to her, and it's all she wants to do. Furthermore, she was drawn to MAGIC! She thought it would be a great opportunity to challenge herself and gain industry experience before university, and a musical short film shot in 4 days sounded hard, and she wanted to give it her best shot. She loved the storyline and the character, plus the opportunity to use her own choreography was really exciting. The added bonus of being in MAGIC! was how kind everyone was on set, and she felt like she had learnt so much, and she hopes to work with everyone once again.

Niamh

Callum Whitelaw is an Australian actor that grew up in rural Australia Callum was drawn to the arts from a young age by his love for movies, television and the occasional trips with family into the big city to watch Musical theatre pieces that would further inspire his career in film and theatre acting. As a child he had the opportunity to work on Production Films and Theatre pieces with a local Theatre and Improv company which led onto his studies for an Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media Acting at The Academy of Film Theatre and Television (now amalgamated with JMC). He loves every opportunity thrown at him with new crews and sets and loves to further his knowledge in the media field. Though he has taken a small hiatus from acting he is moving back into the industry and reawakening his passion for the craft and creating his own productions as well inside the industry so hopefully you’ll get to see some more of him. What brought me to the production of MAGIC! was the chance to try something new that i hadn’t tried before. I had done many musicals before and worked on film however the combination has not been something I had tried yet and intrigued my tiny actor brain! Thankfully I took this chance as it was an amazing opportunity to work with everyone on set and the style was new and challenging.

Boronia Clark_edited.jpg

Boronia Clark is an Australia-based, 26-year-old female who after finishing high school went on to study a 2-year Diploma of Musical Theatre at the Australian Institute of Music. Following this, she then went on to complete another 2-year Diploma of Screen Acting at Screenwise School for Actors. In the midst of all her creative arts studies, she also studied to be an individualised support nurse where she specialised in aged, palliative and disability care. Boronia has had many opportunities in the entertainment industry that included mostly small roles here and there, in short films and a lot of the time as body couples, stand-ins, stunt extras and just good old extras. When she isn’t busy in the arts, Boronia loves the ocean in all its forms, a good old crafternoon and just animals in general. She was drawn to work on ‘MAGIC!’ due to her previous experience working with the director, Bill, on another of his short films, ‘Poolside Suicide’ which she described as “an absolute hoot”, and therefore was so keen to take this chance to do it again.
